UnCaged Toy Piano presents works for toy instruments and film at New Paltz Denizen Theatre. The performance will feature the legendary Margaret Leng Tan, known as “the queen of the toy piano” (NY Times). The program will also include collaborative works for toy piano and video by UnCaged founder Phyllis Chen and Rob Dietz, a world premiere for robot toy piano by Amsterdam-based composer Christina Oorebeek, and appearances by SUNY New Paltz piano professor Dr. Alex Peh, Hwayoung Seo from Toy Piano Ensemble in Seoul, Chromic Duo’s Dorothy Chan and Richmond-based keyboardist, Curt Sydnor. To highlight the collaboration with Denizen, a rare archival film on how to make a toy piano will be featured with live soundtrack. The event with open with the UnCaged Toychestra, a small ensemble of toy instrumentalists led by Elizabeth Margit Distefano and Phyllis Chen.
