On October 18th at 7:30pm, UnCaged Festival closes at the FALCON in Marlboro with a gathering of diverse keyboardists and musicians. Festival highlights include an appearance from Stephin Merritt, known as the front man from The Magnetic Fields, who was recently named one of the Top 30 living American singer-songwriters in the New York Times. Stephin will make a rare performance of songs from Coraline, the musical, which he composed, with UnCaged founder, Phyllis Chen playing toy instruments. The program will also feature original works for synthesizers and drums with Richmond-based musicians Curt Sydnor and Pippin Barnett. Last but not least, UnCaged keyboardists will perform under cellist Aliya Ultan, the co-director of the Kingston Creative Music Studios, in a live improv piece on various keyboards, in the style of Karl Berger’s CMS Improv Orchestra. The concert will open with the UnCaged Toychestra led by Elizabeth Margit Distefano and Phyllis Chen.
